Lesson 1.2

What size kites in what wind?

Introduction

How many kites and which sizes to choose in your subscription depends on multiple factors. Among them are your weight, wind strength and your personal preferences. The table below will give you an idea of what size kite will suit your weight in what conditions.

Our advice

When you start kitesurfing, we recommend choosing a set of two or three kites. This will allow you to comfortably ride a large portion of windy days, and you won't miss sessions because you don't have the right size in your quiver.

Two or three kites?

With three kites, you can hit the water on both light wind days (11-21 knots) and stormy days (28-40 knots).

Now do you want to ride with every breeze but don't necessarily need the stormy days (over 28 knots)? Then two kites will be enough.

Don't like the light wind days at all? Even then, two kites can be enough to get the most out of the sport.

Advice* based on weight

*This advice is based on riding with a twintip board. For directional boards we recommend smaller kites (e.g. 1 to 2m smaller).
