Lesson 3.2

How do I maintain my kitesurfing equipment?

Maintenance of your kitesurfing equipment

GoShaka has a number of tips for you to ensure that your kite material remains in good condition and is not damaged. Damage to your kite and wing surfing equipment is not only dangerous but often also very expensive to repair. So make sure you take good care of your materials and check them regularly. This way you can enjoy it for longer!

  • Avoid any contact of the kite with sharp stones, thorns, wood and other objects that could damage, puncture or tear the kite.
  • Do not use stones or objects with sharp edges (such as sharp-edged boards or fins) to keep your kite on the ground.
  • Avoid unnecessary UV exposure by storing your kite out of direct sunlight. Intense sunlight ages the material quickly.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to wind and sun when your kite is not in use. Flapping the cloth on the beach and excessive UV exposure will shorten the life of your kite.
  • Store your kite in the supplied bag when you are not using it and try to put the kite in the bag as wrinkle-free as possible to prevent kinks in the cloth.
  • To carry your kite on the beach, turn it over so that the leading edge is upwind and the bottom is up. Do not let the ends drag on the ground.
  • Always wash your kite with fresh water after use, mainly after use in salt water.
  • Do not allow water, dirt or sand to enter the bladder while cleaning.
  • Never use harsh chemicals for cleaning and avoid contact with sunscreen.
  • Let your kite dry completely before packing it up. Never store your kite wet or damp in the kite bag for a long time. Otherwise there is a risk of mold or color changes.
  • Do not dry your kite in direct sunlight and protect the kite from temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius during storage.
  • Make sure that no sand or water gets into the valves.
  • Never use an air compressor to inflate your kite. Over-inflation will damage the kite. Follow the manufacturer's air pressure guidelines stated on the kite.
  • Inspect your kite regularly for scratches or damage and contact us if there are any minor cracks. Small cracks can quickly become large cracks, so look for a solution early.
  • After each use of your kite bar, it is necessary to rinse the entire bar with fresh water. To rinse the quick release, pull the safety line back and forth in the slot. Move the quick release back and forth to remove sand or dried salt from the ceramic bearing and openings.
  • Avoid exposing your bar to temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius. High temperatures can damage the structure of the lines and cause them to shrink.
  • Check regularly whether the lines are the same length. To do this, attach the ends of the lines to a hook. With the depower cord fully powered, you pull the bar towards the body. Now all lines should be the same length. If not, you can stretch the shorter lines. To do this, attach only the short lines to the hook and wrap the ends around your harness. Now hang your body weight on the lines to stretch them. Check regularly whether all lines now have the desired length.
  • Before each launch, check that all safety systems operate smoothly and are free of sand and dirt.
  • Your twin tip, surfboard or foil board should be washed with clean water and dried in the shade after each session.
  • Avoid any contact of your board with sharp stones, wood and other objects that can damage the surface and edges of your board.
  • Expose your board as little as possible to intense sunlight on the beach.
  • Store your board in a board bag to prevent unnecessary exposure to UV rays, scratches and additional wear and tear when your board is not in use.
  • Make sure your board is completely dry before putting it in the bag.
  • Make sure that no sand or other dirt gets into the inserts and that they are always clean when your board is assembled.
  • Check your board before and after each use. Make sure the screws are properly tightened.
  • Avoid exposing your board to high temperatures, for example in an unventilated car. Do not store your board at temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.
  • Avoid any contact of your foil wing with sharp-edged stones, thorns, wood and other objects that could damage, puncture or tear the foil wing.
  • Do not use stones or objects with sharp edges (such as boards with sharp edges or fins) to secure your foil wing to the ground to prevent it from flying away.
  • Avoid unnecessary UV exposure by not storing your foil wingl in direct sunlight. Intense sunlight ages the material.
  • Store your foil wing with as few wrinkles as possible in the supplied bag to prevent kinks in the cloth.
  • To carry your foilwing, turn it over so that the leading edge is upwind and the bottom is upwind. Do not let the ends drag on the ground.
  • Always rinse your foil wing with fresh water after use in the sea.
  • Do not allow water, dirt or sand to enter the bladder while cleaning.
  • Never use harsh chemicals for cleaning and avoid contact with sunscreen.
  • Allow the foil wing to dry completely before packing it. Never store your foil wing wet or damp in the wing bag for a long time. Otherwise there is a risk of mold or color change.
  • Do not dry your foil wingl in direct sunlight and protect it from temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius during storage.
  • Never use an air compressor to inflate your wing. Over-inflation will damage the foil wing and result in an insurance claim. Follow the manufacturer's air pressure guidelines printed on the foil wing.
  • Inspect your foil wing regularly for scratches or damage and contact us if there are any minor cracks. Small cracks can quickly become large cracks, so we need to find a solution early.
